Full course description
The Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy presents:
Evaluation of Persons Charged with Sexual Offenses
Online Resources
This two-day, live online (virtual) workshop provides the foundation necessary for mental health professionals to conduct pre-sentencing evaluations of defendants charged with sexual offenses. First, an experienced prosecutor will present the legal foundations for pre-sentencing evaluations of defendants convicted of a sexual offense. Then, a team of psychologists will address the clinical and risk assessment issues relevant to evaluations addressing sexual offending.
This workshop is designed to provide the “specialized training” required to be appointed as an expert under Virginia §19.2-300, providing a pre-sentencing evaluation of a “person convicted of an offense indicating sexual abnormality.” Of course, the clinical and risk assessment content of the training apply to pre-sentencing evaluations addressing sexual offenses in any jurisdiction.
This introductory program is well-suited for forensic clinicians without prior training in assessment of sexual offending. Please contact us for detailed information about the days’ schedule.
